■ Welcome to Your Online First Aid Training
This guide explains how your online First Aid Unit Standard 119567 training will work. Even though you are not in a classroom, you will still receive full value, guidance, and recognition.
1. Your Role as the Learner
• Engage actively with the presentations and videos — treat them like a real class.
• Practice along with demonstrations at home or at work where possible.
• Complete your Portfolio of Evidence (PoE) honestly — it’s your proof of learning.
• Arrive prepared for your practical evaluation.
• Maintain authenticity: all work must be your own — you need to be competent to save lives.
2. Our Role as the Training Provider/Facilitator
• Provide clear, structured learning material (presentations, videos, handouts).
• Ensure content is always up to date with current first aid practices.
• Support your journey with clear instructions and guidance in your PoE.
• Assess fairly during your practical evaluation.
• Maintain quality & compliance with QCTO/SETA standards, so your certificate has real value.
3. Code of Conduct (Both Parties)
• Respect the process — online does not mean less professional.
• Integrity — honesty in completing your PoE and demonstrating skills.
• Commitment — you commit time and focus; we commit to guiding and assessing fairly. • Confidentiality — all medical scenarios used in training are handled respectfully.
4. Portfolio of Evidence (PoE)
Your PoE shows what you have learned before your practical evaluation. Even if nothing is handed in physically, it prepares you for the practical session. Think of it as your training logbook.
5. Practical Evaluation
This is where theory becomes action. You’ll be evaluated in realistic scenarios so you feel ready for workplace situations. Your certificate is only issued once you’ve shown competence in practice.
6. Your Learning Value
• Earn a nationally recognised First Aid certificate.
• Gain confidence to act in an emergency.
• Learn in your own time and at your own pace, but still meet high standards.
• Walk away with a skill that can save lives — an investment in yourself and others.
■ Even though you are not in a classroom, you are not missing out. The presentations and videos give you knowledge, your PoE builds your understanding, and your practical evaluation proves your ability. The standard is the same — the difference is flexibility and control over your learning.
You are completing Unit Standard 119567: Provide First Aid in the Workplace. Here’s how QCTO and SETA fit together in terms of qualifications, and why renewal is important.
National body that oversees all occupational qualifications in South Africa.
Ensures training is relevant, standardised, and quality-assured.
In the long term, QCTO is replacing the old SAQA/SETA unit standard system.
Registers occupational certificates on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF).
Work under the QCTO in specific industry sectors (e.g., HWSETA for Health & Welfare).
Accredit training providers (e.g., First Aid centres).
Monitor the quality of training delivery.
Fund skills development via grants and levies.
QCTO sets the national standards and approves qualifications.
SETAs make sure those standards are implemented in the workplace.
First Aid (US 119567) is currently a unit standard-based qualification under the SETA system.
In the future, this will migrate into the QCTO occupational qualification system.
First Aid is a practical, lifesaving skill that must be renewed (usually every 3 years).
Renewal ensures skills stay sharp and updated with new practices.
Renewal training must be completed with an accredited QCTO/SETA provider.
The QCTO is the umbrella body that sets the national standards. The SETAs are the industry watchdogs that make sure training is delivered properly. First Aid sits under this system as a unit standard now, but in future it will be part of the new QCTO occupational structure. Either way, you’ll always need to renew your training, because skills fade and methods improve.
